MV Dhamma Fellowship

The Formation of MV Dhamma Fellowship (MVDF)

Since the first Sunday Dhamma Classes were conducted forty-nine years ago in 1960, the enrolment of students had grown from strength to strength.  More and more YMBA Diploma graduates were recruited to be teachers after their graduation, to cater to the ever increasing number of students for these classes.  This year (2009) saw the renaming of the Sunday Dhamma Classes to Mangala Vihara Buddhist Studies (YMBA).

To stay relevant and to continue to seek improvements in our fast changing society and to provide a platform for both current and past students and teachers of Mangala Vihara to stay connected, Ven. Raja saw the need for the establishment of the Mangala Vihara Dhamma Fellowship (MVDF). He proposed the formation of the Fellowship during a Teachers’ Meeting and seeing how the MVDF would benefit the teachers, students and the temple, the Chairman and his committee gave their full support.

Ven. Raja subsequently held a meeting with the Dhamma teachers on 25th Sept 2009.  The Dhamma Supervisor, Jessy Phua was also present at the meeting.  At the next meeting on 4th Oct 2009, the MVDF committee was formed, with Ven. Raja as the Adviser.  Bro Raymond Yow was nominated to be Chairman and Sis Cheng Seow Eng was appointed Secretary.  The other committee members include Bro Lee Teng Yong, Sis Lily Chan, Sis Nina Wong, Sis Lee Mee Yin and Sis Ellen Lim.

To foster better interaction and to encourage the current students to play an active role in the MVDF, Ven Raja felt that representatives from each class should also be included in the committee.  Thus on the 8th Nov 2009, William Tong, Angelin Chong, Alex Lim, Suriaty Simon and Leong Peng Ho were added to the existing committee.

Hence, the MVDF committee comprises representatives from current students and teachers as well as ex-students who are YMBA Diploma graduates.
